Understanding Notary Fees

I thought the most you could charge was $10.00, why do you charge more?

California law sets the maximum fees that can be charged for the actual notarial act - the notarization itself. It does not however, address administrative, travel and other fees.

If you walk in to an office with a notary, the maximum they can charge is the $10.00 per signature. That's per signature, not per document. If there are two people signing a document and both signatures need to be notarized, the notary can charge as much as $20.00 ($10.00 each). When it comes to mobile notaries, though, things are a bit different. When you have a notary come to you, you are also paying for the time, effort and convenience that it takes to make a "house call" - hence the travel/wait fees. These fees are NOT regulated by the State.

When I visit you, you will receive an itemized receipt detailing exactly what services you paid for, and there are never any hidden costs.

I understand, though, that the cost of a mobile notary may be too much. That's okay! If you'd like to go to a notary directly, see my list of alternative notary locations.
